The hospital Ayden was born in participated in a Newborn Screening program. He tested positive for G6PD, a disorder that could be fatal in some cases but had a very simple treatment. Ayden had to avoid some foods and cannot be exposed to Naphthalene Balls, Sulpha drugs or Mehendi. Detecting G6PD in Ayden led his parents and grandparents to test for it. His parents tested negative (his mother is a carrier) but his aunt and grandmother tested positive for G6PD. He leads a normal, healthy life and has a valid reason for why he cannot eat fava beans!
